Join us for the Hampton Roads Vision Connection, a free, in-person event where you can hear directly from local organizations working together to share vital support, services, and opportunities for our community. This is your chance to learn about resources designed to increase independence, confidence, and access to education, employment, and the arts.
Hear powerful insights from the Virginia Department for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DBVI Norfolk). Learn about special programs and services that help individuals of all ages gain the skills and confidence they need to live more independently, go to school, and get a job. This includes job training and placement assistance, resume writing, interview preparation, and finding the right job.
The WHRO Voice Speaker: James Holzer, Coordinator. The WHRO Voice is a free streaming radio service producing audio programs primarily for individuals who are blind, vision impaired, or have difficulty reading standard print. Learn how their 70+ volunteers read southeastern Virginia’s major daily and weekly newspapers. You can listen using: Amazon or Google smart-speaker devices (Alexa, etc.), telephone apps, online streaming, or specially modified FM radios.
Access Virginia Speaker: Lois Boyle, Executive Director. Access Virginia is a nonprofit organization established to create access to the arts, performing arts, museums, and art galleries for people with vision and hearing loss. Discover the accommodations they provide, including audio description for patrons with vision loss and open captioning for patrons with hearing loss.
