Financial Statements

The audited financial statements are prepared on a consolidated basis that includes the Foundation Fighting Blindness and its subsidiary Foundation Fighting Blindness Retinal Degeneration Fund, and provide a comprehensive picture of the financial status of the organization.

The Form 990 for the Foundation Fighting Blindness  provides financial data, as well as information on program, governance and compliance matters. Information is reported on a stand alone basis for the Foundation only and does not consider data from its subsidiary organization, Foundation Fighting Blindness Retinal Degeneration Fund. The Foundation Fighting Blindness is a 501(c)(3) organization.

The Form 990 for the Foundation Fighting Blindness Retinal Degeneration Fund (RD Fund) is also reported on a stand alone basis and does not consider data from its parent organization, the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

Restricted Gift Policy

Donors may restrict a gift to a specific research area, disease population or Foundation program. Administering restricted funds carries real cost, including the staff time and infrastructure required to select, manage and monitor the work those gifts make possible.

Effective Aug. 1, 2026, restricted gifts and restricted corporate sponsorships include an allocation for program management and operating expenses. The standard allocation is 15%. For restricted gifts of $1 million or more but less than $5 million, the allocation is 10%. For gifts of $5 million or more, the allocation is determined individually and documented in writing. Some gifts and sponsorships are excluded.

Minimum gift levels apply. Restricted gifts supporting work already in the Foundation's budget start at $50,000. Restricted gifts supporting a new project not already in the Foundation's budget start at $300,000. Meeting a minimum does not obligate the Foundation to accept a restriction.
