The journey of navigating vision loss often brings emotional challenges, making mental health an essential part of overall well-being.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month this May, the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB), in partnership with The Chicago Lighthouse, is excited to invite you to a special Vision Connection focused on mental health and vision loss.
This event will feature a panel of guest speakers representing both professional and patient perspectives, offering insight, lived experience, and practical guidance for navigating the emotional impact of vision loss. A full list of guest speakers will be shared in the coming weeks.
Participants will also learn about valuable support resources, including:
- FFB’s Mental Health Resource Center offers tools, resources, and connections to help individuals and families manage the unique emotional complexities associated with vision changes. From expert guidance and accessible therapy options to community stories and practical tools, our goal is to empower those facing these experiences with knowledge, support, and a sense of community.
- Stronger Together, a Chicago Lighthouse initiative that expands mental health services for adult Cook County residents who are blind, visually impaired, disabled, Veterans, and now, their caregivers and care partners. Through this initiative, a Mental Health Care Coordinator connects clients with licensed providers, answers questions, and helps resolve barriers to care by linking individuals to both internal services and community resources. Importantly, the initiative also removes financial barriers by covering out-of-pocket costs such as copays or deductibles for uninsured and underinsured clients.
We look forward to seeing you on May 19. Light bites and beverages will be provided.
