Why Policy & Advocacy Matter

Advancing treatments and cures requires more than science alone—it takes smart policy and strong advocacy. By engaging with legislators, testifying before Congress, and rallying community voices, we champion policies that increase federal funding, incentivize innovation, and protect the interests of people within the blindness and low vision community.

Examples of this work include:

  • Research funding: Securing sustained support for the National Eye Institute (NEI) and vision research at NIH to address blinding diseases.
  • Therapy development: Promoting policies that speed safe access to promising therapies for blindness and vision loss.
  • Pediatric incentives: Advocating for legislation like the “Give Kids a Chance Act” to ensure children with rare blinding diseases have access to potential treatments.
