Research into blinding diseases depends on NIH and the National Eye Institute working alongside patient organizations like the Foundation Fighting Blindness, and funding decisions should rest on expert scientific review and patient need.
OMB has also proposed a rule that would put political appointees in charge of approving and canceling federal research grants. Congress blocked it, but only until December 11.
