FOUNDATION MID ATLANTIC REGION AND LILLY PULITZER CELEBRATE BLIND AWARENESS MONTH
The Foundation Fighting Blindness Mid Atlantic region’s chapters honored Blind Awareness Month in a joint public awareness and fundraising program. Due to the efforts of the Baltimore Chapter’s President, Mindy Caplan, on Saturday, October 12 from noon to 4PM, members from the Baltimore, Montgomery County, and Northern Virginia chapters were Foundation Fighting Blindness ambassadors at six Lilly Pulitzer stores. The event is called SHOP AND SHARE; Lilly Pulitzer invites nonprofit organizations to their stores to educate the staff and customers while shopping. Lilly Pulitzer donates 10 percent of sales for the event. The chapter members had the opportunity to engage with store customers and staff and the Foundation received over $1,200 dollars. It was the first time the Mid Atlantic chapters collaborated for a regional fundraiser and we look forward to doing it again.
FOUNDATION BALTIMORE CHAPTER FALL SPEAKER SERIES
Transportation was the theme for the Foundation Fighting Blindness Baltimore Chapter’s Fall Speaker Series on Sunday, November 3rd, 2019, at the Arbutus Branch Library. The seminar was set up in a panel forum. There were representatives from various organizations that serve passengers with special needs. The panel was comprised of the Compliance Office at BWI, County Ride, MTA, Partners in Care, Safe Ride, and TSA (Amtrak representative was unable to attend at the last minute). Each representative discussed details of their services and how passengers may utilize their programs. Among the many topics discussed, Speaker Series attendees learned AIRA is now available at BWI airport, how to receive assistance through security working on better communication, and many services available for blind and low vision passengers.
After the presentations there was a brief break, followed by an Question and Answer session. All attendees received a package of material provided by the organizations.
