    Blind Guy Biking: Enduring the Trails for Stargardt

    Chris Smith, a mountain bike enthusiast who was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, transformed his bike into a lifeline after losing his driver’s license. Now, 15 years later, he’s tackling the grueling 2,745-mile Tour Divide race while raising funds for the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

    Rocking On With Stargardt

    Adopted into a musical family, Miles Hoyt picked up a guitar at just four years old, and he hasn’t stopped playing since. Now Miles, who has Stargardt disease, and his parents are using music to bring their community together to raise funds for blinding diseases with their Raising Our Sights fundraiser, Smiles for Miles.

    Wine for a Cure

    Lindsey Blankenship, president of the Foundation Fighting Blindness Colorado Chapter, has created a one-of-a-kind Raising Our Sights Event. Wine for a Cure aims to spread awareness and fundraise on behalf of the Foundation Fighting Blindness with two signature wines from the Oregon Winery, Stoller Family Estates. The featured wines are a Chardonnay named “Variant” and a Pinot Noir named “Pigmentosa.”

    Heather Napolitano started her DIY fundraiser, SeeShore Fest, seven years ago. The event has now raised over $109,000 to fund research finding treatments and cures for blinding diseases.

    Eye on the Prize Winner: Josh/Nicholls State University

    This year, the Foundation created a new fundraising initiative called Eye on the Prize, influenced by March Madness. The winner of the inaugural Eye on the Prize competition was Nicholls State University, raising $2,428. This winning team was led by Josh Cogswell, an assistant professor of management at Nicholls State University, who has his own personal connection to the Foundation’s mission.
