At the Foundation Fighting Blindness, a dollar is more than just a dollar – it’s a path to transforming lives. But just where does your donation go?

Well, a portion goes toward the staff and administration who bring the fundraising and educational programs to life. But the majority is dedicated to our core mission – research and education. In fact, about 75 cents of every dollar you donate goes directly toward finding treatments and cures.

To better understand, let’s make sense of the cents…

A piece goes to science administration and funding for My Retina Tracker Registry, a database for those affected by blinding retinal diseases. But where the value of your donation becomes invaluable is with research and clinical trials. We pass the buck in the name of science, under research around 85 percent goes to fund grants and awards. In addition, a percentage goes toward the RD Fund to invest in companies nearing late-stage research and clinical trials.

Now with the funds efficiently allocated, let’s look at the process for bringing treatments to the community.

Preclinical and Clinical trials help get new drugs to the market. During the preclinical period, research for a new drug begins in the laboratory and undergoes testing to answer basic safety questions. Once a new drug enters into clinical trials, it is administered to select groups of people and determined if it is beneficial to patients in need. After the three phases are completed, the drug is given to the FDA for final review and approval.

With the help of your donation, for the first time in human history we are treating and curing vision loss. So when it comes to the value of your dollar – you can’t put a price on that!
