COLUMBIA, Maryland – April 22, 2020 – The Foundation Fighting Blindness, the world’s leading private funding source for retinal degenerative disease research, has announced it will host its first ever continuing medical education (CME and COPE) event. The distance-learning course will be hosted on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 12:00 pm eastern time. The course will cover inherited retinal diseases (IRDs), Foundation resources, and current clinical trials. The course is designated for both ophthalmologists and optometrists and will be offered free of charge.

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Summarize inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) and their impact on patients.
  • Identify the benefits of IRD genetic testing, genetic counseling, and patient registries.
  • Review current clinical trials for emerging IRD therapies.

The course will be delivered by Jacque Duncan, MD, professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at University of California, San Francisco.
